Recession hits telecoms industry
The slump in the world trade economy may have finally reached the telecommunications industry, with Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone manufacturer, expected to report its lowest quarterly revenue growth in four years.
Yet, according to research company ABI Research, all may not be as bad as it seems.
The research company believes that handset sales for new models from all major companies will improve during the second half of 2008.
Research in Motion is expected to soon release new Blackberry models, whilst Nokia and Samsung are also expected to unveil their best phones to date.
This year’s new handsets are tending to make current technology such as mp3 players, GPS and cameras, easier to use, rather than integrating new technologies.
Should telecoms sales pick up, it will be in line with historical trends as the second half of the year always outperforms the first in terms of handset sales.
