UK telecom prices improve for consumers

Residents of the UK are spending more time utilising telecommunications services than ever before but paying less for them, according to research released by Ofcom on Thursday.

Ofcom's research into the UK's £51 billion telecoms industry revealed that UK residents spent an average of 7 hours 9 minutes each day using communications services and devices including television, fixed and mobile phones, radio and internet, an increase of 6 minutes per day from 2002.

Ofcom stated that consumers are now getting more value for money from telecoms services, indicating that the average household spent on communications for 2007 was £93.63 per month, down £1.53 on the average spending in 2006 and down by £4.31 since 2004.

Reasons for the price drop can be largely attributed to the availability of bundled services such as landline, broadband and TV from the same provider.
